Meal Plan

Meal plans make dining on campus convenient and more affordable. Whether you live on campus, are a commuter student, Faculty or Staff, we offer a variety of meal plan options to meet your needs. Don't miss out on the high quality, chef-created meals served in our locations throughout campus.

The University of Maine requires all residential students, except those residing in DTAV or Patch, to purchase a meal plan to ensure that our students are eating, living, and learning in healthful ways.

***All meal plans are based on semester rates. Meal plans are non-refundable after the meal plan change period has ended for the semester (Feb. 1) in which the meal plan was purchased.***

Unlimited meal plans are designed for resident students to enjoy the convenience of swiping in and out of the dining halls as frequently as needed, with no worrying about running out of swipes. Our two residential dining halls (Hilltop Dining and York Dining) offer hours of operation 7 days a week with a variety of menu choices. Stop in for a full meal, a snack, or a cup of coffee!

Unlimited meal plans are required of all first and second-year students living on campus, except those living in DTAV or Patch. Upper-class resident students are also welcome to select an unlimited plan. All unlimited meal plan holders also receive a Kiwibot delivery bottomless subscription!

Upper-class students are welcome to participate in our unlimited dining plans, but we recognize that they often need more flexibility in relation to their course work or internship programs. The following plans offer fewer meal swipes and more Meal Plan Dollars for students who need nutritious options they can eat on the go.

DTAV/Patch residents who live in suites on campus have kitchen spaces and can supplement meals with their own cooking. They may select one of the following meal plans.

Commuters and UMaine faculty and staff may also choose any of these plans. We offer extensive culinary options on campus for those that are looking for a break from cooking or want to stop in to dine with the convenience of staying on campus. These plans offer a smaller amount of meal swipes (all access meals at York or Hilltop) along with meal plan dollars that can be used in retail venues such as the Eat>NOW Market, Starbucks, Bear’s Den, Sal's Pizza, Central Pub, Union Central and Quick Byte.

Meal Exchanges

Meal exchanges are offered at the Bear's Den during the academic year, weekdays from 2pm - 6pm, to allow our Unlimited Meal Plan holders extra flexibility in their dining. Unlimited Meal Plan holders may use up to two exchanges per week and only one per day. What's Included Each participating venue offers a selection of entrées available for Meal Exchange. Choose 1 entrée, then select 1 side and 1 beverage from the designated meal exchange list. View the posted flyer at the entrance to the Bear's Den for more specific information.

Additional items (or items not listed on the signage as included in the meal exchange program) are available for purchase separately with meal plan dollars, credit, debit or cash. Click here to view the meal plan exchange flyer.

To-go meals are available to meal plan holders once per meal period and are intended to be enjoyed outside of the dining halls.

How To Redeem

  • Ask for a to-go meal when you check in with the cashier at the dining hall. You will receive a ReusePass container to borrow and return within 3 days.

How It Works

  • The cashier will scan the QR code on your ReusePass container. You’ll scan your personal ReusePass QR code (available on the website). The cashier will provide cutlery and a cup if needed. Fill your container with your meal, close it securely, and you’re all set!

Returning Your Container

  • Return within 3 days to avoid any issues with your account. Please scrape out any leftover food before returning your container.
